Budapest!

I was one of the lucky 20 women to get to go on the AWA fall trip to Budapest. We left early on Thursday morning, and the party atmosphere was already in the air as we travelled first to Amsterdam. A five hour layover was filled with shopping and chatting over copious amounts of extremely strong Dutch coffee. We arrived in Budapest in the afternoon and made our way to our hotel. Our hotel was located in the Castle district of Old Buda. We had a fantastic view of the Fisherman's Bastion from our window. My friend Sherri who organized the trip had arranged for our first group activity that evening, a wine tasting in the old Dominican wine cellars that were below our hotel. The hotel had been built on top and incorporated parts of an old Dominican monastery.

The wine tasting was fun, the wines were all Hungarian and some were very tasty. They served us a plate of different cheeses and goulash soup, really great! I am not normally a fan of dessert wine but they served us one accompanied by a delicious blue cheese that went so well with the wine. We had a great night, however having been up since 3:30 in the morning so we turned in very soon after the wine tasting ended.

Interesting note for everyone, little Miss Fiona left the house looking entirely too glamourous for 4am. While the rest of us would have taken the extra hour of sleep and arrived on the Danube in sweats and a ball cap, my wife was intent on showing the Hungarians how it's done.
